Classroom + School Day Needs

 

Berkeley High – Help our Students with Special Needs Succeed in High School–and Beyond!

Support students in the Collaborative Learning Center (CLC) class 2nd and/or 4th periods M-F with students who have Individualized Education Plans (IEPs.) Help with study skills, organization, and with assignments from general education classes (ie: mainstream classrooms.) NO PRIOR SPECIAL EDUCATION EXPERIENCE NECESSARY; we will help you learn new strategies and tutoring skills. Good tutoring experience for working with ANY students!

Art Class at LeConte elementary: The Art Teacher at LeConte needs help to set-up installations of student work for their school-wide African American Art Show. Covering 15 bulletin boards with craft paper, arranging and affixing several hundred works of art plus Making Learning Visible Walls to go with each project. Days and times below:

Feb. 15 from 1:30p – 3:30p

Feb. 16 from 1p – 3p

Feb. 21 from 1p – 3p

Feb. 22 from 1p – 3p – last day to install

Assist Art teacher Friday afternoons (11:15 – 2:45) so elementary-aged students experience an exciting, meaningful Art class – prior experience working with elementary-aged children would be helpful, but is not necessary. Valuing visual art is also helpful.

Assist with set-up and clean-up; document student process by recording their words and taking photographs of students as they work; help build Making Learning Visible Walls, help students understand of their own process by asking them engaging questions; learn about Best Practices in Art teaching.

Garden and/or Nutrition, Cooking Programs – District-wide: Play in the dirt and help educate students of all ages on gardening and nutrition! This is a great way to get involved while you’re waiting on the Edible Schoolyard waitlist!

 

After School:  3pm-6pm, Monday – Friday

 

We have a high need for academic tutors, especially English/Literacy and Math for all our afterschool programs at most elementary schools and all middle schools. Here is the list of schools requesting immediate support:

Elementary schools: Berkeley Arts Magnet, Cragmont, Emerson, John Muir, LeConte, Malcolm X, Oxford, Thousand Oaks, Washington.

Middle schools: Willard, Longfellow, King

Rosa Parks Elementary Power Program is holding 2 seven-week sessions to support students in reading and math skills. Please see the attached flyer for more information: Word and Math Power flyer
